IMPORTANT: Redeye membership during the period of coronavirus.

We understand that during the coronavirus pandemic many photographers have experienced a significant or complete drop in their income. As a Community Benefit Society, we are led by the needs of our members, so our membership scheme will remain open, to allow us to continue our work and offer events and activities over the next few months. For anyone facing financial hardship, we would be happy to offer a temporary freeze on membership payments while retaining member benefits. If this affects you, please contact us to request this, with a brief note about your circumstances. Make sure you contact us from the same email address that you use for membership.

Please note that this process is not instant, so allow up to two weeks for it to take effect. This will apply until the end of June 2020, at which point we will review.

A Redeye membership offers opportunities designed to help you advance your photography and your career. It's aimed at anyone who is serious about photography, whether or not you are a full time or part time photographer, artist, collector, lecturer, tutor, gallery owner or curator. Membership runs for one year and is renewable and paid online annually through PayPal.

It features:

A showcase for your work, with your own page on Redeye's website
Savings – substantial discounts on most Redeye activities, and on a range of other activities and services
Access to commissions and other work opportunities distributed exclusively to members
Information – member-only content including essential support for career development
Involvement – members get priority access to all Redeye services, and can take part in the AGM and focus groups to have a say in how the network is run.

The cost is £50 per year, £48 if you pay by GoCardless Direct Debit, or just £30 for students and those joining up to a year after graduating. That's £4 per month (or £2.50 for students). Prices include VAT. Please note by signing up for direct debit you agree to becoming a member for a minimum of twelve months. You can stop your direct debit and your membership at any time after twelve months.

MCL Photo: Redeye members receive a 10% discount on orders of £50 at MCL Photo, proof of membership is needed. MCL is a small lab near the centre of Manchester, they process Colour Film (C41) 135/120/5x4/10x8 and Black & White Film (By hand using manufacturers specifications). Printing Bursary with Rob Sara: Each year one Redeye member will be selected to receive two days of hand printing free of charge, to produce a series of images, for portfolio or exhibition, up to the value of £720. The bursary winner will have the opportunity to oversee the process, and be present as their work is created. One night accommodation in Cumbria will also be provided, sponsored by Redeye. The printer, Rob Sara of Studio One Darkroom, Cumbria, is one of the UK’s most accomplished, having printed for photographers such as Hannah Starkey, Trish Morrissey, David Moore, Ewen Spencer, Nick Meek, Stephen Gill and Simon Roberts. The bursary is aimed to encourage the production of images that have not been realised before, with the emphasis on new personal work. Please note this is only for work shot on colour negative. Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer membership discounts for the unwaged?

Yes, if you expect to be unemployed and on very low income for at least a year; select the Concessionary Membership option after you click "Join Redeye". If you're not sure if you are eligible please contact us explaining your circumstances.

Where do I get news of commissions and opportunities for members only?

If they're time-sensitive, they're emailed to you. Also most member-only opportunities are listed in the News & Opportunities section of this site. You will need to be logged in using the email address and password associated with your membership to see them.

What's the difference between Subscriber and Member? How do I know if I'm a member?

By "members" we mean paid members - if you have paid your membership fee within the last year you are a member. To upgrade from subscriber to member, when you're logged in, just click on the green "Join Redeye" button and you'll go straight to the form.

What can I put on a Portfolio page, and how do I do it?

You can upload any number of images (but only 13 will display), plus a short biography, contact details, and choose up to 6 specialisms, which are searchable by anyone looking for a photographer.

After you've joined, log in via the link at the top of the page; Click "My account" then click "edit" to change your details, or "Go to your portfolio" then click "Edit your portfolio" to add or change images.

Can I pay monthly or by direct debit?

Yes. Click Join Redeye, select your membership type, then choose "GoCardless" Direct Debit at the checkout.

GoCardless is a UK-based, independent, regulated and secure Direct Debit service. You'll need to enter your bank details when using the service, but we don't see those. When you sign up and then each time a payment is made, you'll get an email, and you can amend your preferences at any time from a link in that email. Their charges are lower than PayPal whoch enables us to reduce the price of membership.

Please note when signing up via direct debit you are agreeing to pay for a full year's membership and are required to pay the DD amount for a full 12 months. If you wish to change from DD to one-off payment mid-way through your membership, please get in touch to arrange this with a member of staff.
