Student bursary places, NPS

We have a few free bursary places left for students, for the Saturday (28 April 2012) only of the National Photography Symposium.

To apply, please send an email to redeyesubmissions@gmail.com and you will be sent the details.

This offer is only for the Saturday; if you want to come both days you'll need to buy a ticket. The offer is open till Thursday 26 April or until it runs out, whichever is sooner.

Carlisle Photography Festival launched

The first ever Carlisle Photography Festival, running 16 - 27 April 2012, will introduce the people of Carlisle to the emerging talent of 29 photographers. In a series of five free exhibitions award winning photographers from England, Scotland, Denmark, Poland and Finland will display their newest work.

The themes of nature, family, documentary, self-portraits and still life will be explored across five venues situated within walking distance of Carlisle city centre.

Emma K. Freeman is the first winner of the Redeye Printing Bursary with Rob Sara

Emma K. Freeman is the first winner of the Redeye Printing Bursary with Rob Sara. Emma is in her final year studying BA (Hons) Photography at Blackpool and the Fylde College of Art.

Her work is solely shot on film, which is very important to her. Emma says: “The process of taking an image is slowed down, so more thought and understanding is put into the image itself. It is seen as a process that is dying out due to the digital age, however I believe that the analogue medium can set aside photographers from just anybody with a digital camera.”

Farnell Photolab closes

Farnell Photolab in Lancaster announced its closure on 29 Februrary, just weeks short of its 20th birthday.

A favourite lab for top photographers across the North of England, Farnell's had supported Redeye in producing exhibitions over the last ten years.

The lab was known for its personal service: in recent months it had worked with Lancaster University to crack the processing of Kodachrome for a distraught customer who had missed the deadline for Kodak processing.

Lorraine Shaw

We at Redeye were very saddened to hear of the sudden death of the photographer Lorraine Shaw, on 15 December 2011.

As well as a member of Redeye’s Advisory Group and an accomplished photographer, Lorraine was active in her community and was passionate in everything that she did. She was a regular at Redeye’s events, and her natural warmth, positivity and intelligence made her many friends.
