Everyday Selves presents a series of contemporary portraits and self-portraits grounded in ordinary, domestic scenes.

Photography has become part of an almost continuous process of self-presentation, increasingly proliferated through media and online platforms. Intimate views of private worlds are created, tweeted, posted and exhibited. The screen of the camera phone or the laptop functions as a kind of two-way mirror, reflecting back a crafted and desirable view of oneself, while also allowing the world outside to look in. Photography, and specifically the self-portrait, is increasingly integral, not only to our image, but to our sense of who we are.

Everyday Selves explores the presence of photography in our daily lives and its role in blurring the boundaries between private and public space and between physical and virtual realities.

There will be a programme of events to accompany this exhibition. Please see www.belfastexposed.org for more details.
