Winning images have now been selected for the This Working Life Award 2006. Sponsored by Lloyds TSB Development Capital (LDC) in partnership with Redeye, supported by Arts & Business and funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, it celebrates photographic work that interprets contemporary working life in Britain. As part of the project 12 student photographers went into selected companies with a brief to photograph working life there, while employees were also invited to submit images following on-site photography workshops.

Winner of the Student Award is Zoltan Varga from the University of Wales in Newport, whose images were taken at Electrium, a Staffordshire-based supplier of electrical wiring accessories and domestic circuit protection products. Zoltan will receive £1,000 to aid him in his professional development. Justin Crofts from Edinburgh College of Art, Joe McGill of the Swansea Institute for Higher Education and Ian Molyneux from St Helens College were all commended. The Employee Award went to Shilpa Bhojani of Ultimate Products in Bolton, which supplies homeware, kitchen and electrical products to major retailers. Also commended were Kevin Bishop of Electrium in Cannock, Staffordshire and Keith Bird and Jonathan Wright from Steelite International in Stoke-on-Trent.

The 12 student photographers were awarded bursaries to produce a body of work in selected companies across the country. As part of the project, practising photography professionals also led photography workshops for the companies’ employees, encouraging them to interpret their own working environment through the medium of photography. This Working Life – The LDC Photography Award will enjoy an exhibition tour of four cities - London, Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool - over the Summer, and a photographic publication will also showcase entrants’ work.
