Redeye, the Photography Network, has received an increase in regular funding from Arts Council England, of 187.5%, phased in over three years from April 2008 to 2010/11.
This is one of the largest percentage rises of all arts organisations.
On 1st February 2008 Arts Council England released details of decisions on regular funding of all organisations in its portfolio. The majority of organisations received an increase in line with or above inflation but 185 organisations will not have funding renewed.
The phased increase for Redeye will mean a doubling of core funding in 2008-9, rising to the full 187.5% in 2010-11.
Redeye's director Paul Herrmann said:
'We're very pleased to have been offered this funding increase. I think it's a recognition that Redeye performs a valuable role, both in its support of practising photographers, and in its contributions to debate and ideas around photography. In recent years Redeye has expanded significantly and this has required a continuous effort to raise funds, which of course took time away from delivering activities for photographers and the public. Now with this award, together with the huge amount of voluntary help we receive, we will have more time both to deliver our core programme of events and support, and also work on more ambitious projects.'
