New Art Gallery Walsall

The New Art Gallery Walsall presents, collects and interprets historic, modern and contemporary art in innovative and challenging ways, welcoming visitors from all over the globe as well as our immediate locality.

The changing exhibition programmes on Floors 3 and 4 focus on the contemporary visual arts. Presenting both solo and group shows and reflecting the diversity of current practice, the programme seeks to support the development of living artists and to engage and challenge visitors.

The Collections Galleries on Floors 1 and 2 present works from our extensive art collections. The Galleries were specifically designed to house The Garman Ryan Collection, gifted to the people of Walsall by Lady Kathleen Garman, widow of Sir Jacob Epstein, and her friend, Sally Ryan. With a strong family focus, the Collection includes both European and non-European works and includes paintings, drawings, sculpture and prints by artists such as Picasso, Braque, Gericault and Delacroix. The Collections Galleries are also home to our Archive Room, specially designed by artist Bob and Roberta Smith.

The Gallery hosts a series of artists’ residences in our very own Artists’ Studio.   We offer development support and opportunities to artists, often from the West Midlands region, in exploring new ways of connecting artists and audiences.

Other areas of interest to visit are the Roof Terrace, Art Libray, The Family Gallery, Art Library and Costa Coffee.

The Gallery develops a wide range of activities and events for diverse audiences including schools, colleges, universities, families and community groups.
