Redeye is delighted to announce the first nine winners of Capture Manchester, our competition in partnership with CUBE Gallery, DLA Piper and Marketing Manchester.
And you have the opportunity to vote for the tenth winner, by going to Cube Gallery between 28th March and 9th April 2009.
The winners, who each receive £500, are:
• Aminur Alam (14) a pupil at Grange School in Oldham
• Jean Lee (24) a student at Manchester College
• Toby Swire (35) from Stockport
• Rod Kippen a youth worker from Manchester
• Alisdair King (24) from Hulme
• Tom Norwood (31) from Manchester city centre
• Ian Bramham (47) an architect from Poynton
• Helen Grundy a filmmaker from Manchester
• Mike Garry (43) a poet based in Manchester.
Over 600 entries were received and the standard of work was very high. Redeye's Director Paul Herrmann, who was one of the judges, said: “I’m amazed at the explosion of talent this competition has unleashed. Of course it's impossible to capture the city in one image, but so many of the entrants have really thought hard and given us something surprising, funny, personal or just different. Doesn't that inventiveness and creativity make Manchester the place it is?'
Capture Manchester is open to the public on 28th March to 18th April at CUBE, 113 -115 Portland Street, Manchester M1 6DW. Opening times Mon to Fri: 12-5.30 Sat: 12-5pm.
The prizes will be given out at the launch on Friday 27th March from 6pm - all welcome. A book accompanying the exhibition will be available soon - see the Capture Manchester website.
