We are delighted to announce the winner of the first Redeye Digital Printing Bursary with Jack Lowe Studio. It's Karen Rangeley, with a series of images (selection above) exploring workers' personal spaces in factories. She will have the opportunity to have works printed by highly acclaimed printer Jack Lowe up to the value of £750.

From all the entrants, a shortlist of three photographers was chosen, followed by the eventual winner, by a selection panel from Redeye and Jack Lowe Studio. All entrants are members of Redeye.

Here is the shortlist with Jack's comments below each name.

Ann Holmes
I enjoyed Ann Holmes' submission, reading about her structured, focussed approach to photography. Ann appears to have a clear vision of what she would like to achieve with her work and seems well on her way to fulfilling it.

Attilio Fiumarella
Attilio is also very focussed in his approach and direction. He is technically good and appears to be in control on both the photographic and printing side of digital imaging.

Karen Rangeley — Winner
Of all the submissions, I found Karen's the most engaging and intriguing. She has an excellent eye for composition that suits her project aims very well. After looking through Karen's prints, I feel that she is the entrant who'd benefit most of all from some guidance and tuition on the printmaking front. I would be very happy to help Karen make a selection of A1 prints from her 'Personal Space' series.

Karen said: "I’m very excited about being awarded the Jack Lowe printing bursary, especially after hearing him speak at the recent Redeye event in Manchester. I'm most looking forward to working alongside Jack, seeing the decisions he makes and being a part of the printing process. To see my photographs as large prints will be the icing on the cake, though I’m also hoping I can nick a few tips for my own home printing!”

We'd like to thank everyone who entered - see below for more info about how to enter next time.

About Jack Lowe Studios and the Bursary

[img_assist|nid=17658|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=220|height=119]For twelve years Jack (right) has been making digital archival pigment prints for photographers and galleries who need the best possible digital prints. He has worked with some of Britain’s most inspiring photographers, including Julian Germain, Paul Kenny, Tom Stoddart, Julian Calverley and Jonathan Knowles. This is the first bursary he has offered to Redeye members. For more details about Jack Lowe see www.jacklowestudio.co.uk.

This annual bursary can involve up to two days of directed digital printing to produce a series of images for a photographer’s portfolio or small exhibition to the value of up to £750. The printing can either be done in the winner's own studio or at Jack Lowe Studio in Newcastle upon Tyne. An overnight stay if needed will be sponsored by Redeye.

This digital printing bursary is purely for work shot as RAW files or high resolution scans from film. Whilst work can be from your archive, the bursary is aimed at encouraging new work and is expected to be images that have never been shown before. It is only open to current members of Redeye. It runs in parallel to our bursary for those shooting on colour negative film, with Rob Sara. The next round will be announced in winter 2014.
