No matter how brilliant your work, you'll never get anywhere if people don't know about it. Marketing is a critical factor and can make the difference between success and failure for an artist, photographer or creative business.

This session looks at the ways in which photographers, artists and makers can tap into marketing tools and successfully promote themselves and their work through marketing and networking. It's suitable not just for photographers but for artists and makers in any medium.

The workshop will be delivered through a number of talks by industry professionals. We've got six speakers giving presentations on the day, all of whom bring varied expertise and invaluable industry insights.

Presentations/speakers:

To kick things off, Jenny Gaskell of The Future: will deliver her talk Being Nice: networking for freelancers, artists & human beings. She'll show how networking isn't as daunting as it seems and instead centres around meeting new people, supporting the sector and working with people you get on with. She'll explain the key principles of networking before showing you how to apply them to different scenarios. Jenny will also offer up some practical suggestions for finding new networking opportunities.

Paul Herrmann of Redeye, will then go on to deliver his 'essential marketing toolkit', explaining the tools and techniques a photographer/artist needs to market their work effectively.

After lunch, digital artist and filmmaker Andrew Brooks, and established photographer Jonathan Keenan , will be in conversation with Redeye's Paul Herrmann, discussing their personal approaches to marketing. This session will serve as a useful case study for photographers who are successfully marketing their own work in today's economic and cultural climate.

Gareth Langley of Stardotstar will then delve into the world of personal branding explaining how to take the ‘human-centred’ approach to branding and communications.

Camilla Westergaard of Folksy will round off the talks with a exploration into social media, and how it can be used to generate traffic to your website and facilitate sales.

We'll be finishing off the day with a Q&A session with Redeye's Paul Herrmann (Director) and Jo Slack (Marketing) who will be on hand to answer any questions you have about the day or marketing/networking in general.
