The event
Chloe Dewe Mathews is an award-winning photographic artist. She is best known for ambitious documentary projects that can take years of preparation. Projects such as the series Caspian, where Chloe walked through Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan, following the Caspian Sea.

For one of her most recent projects, In Search of Frankenstein, Chloe completed an artist's residency at the Verbier 3-D Foundation, Bagnes, Switzerland in 2016 on the topic of the so-called Year Without a Summer (1816), a period of severe climate deterioration that provided the backdrop for the conception of Frankenstein. Chloe returned to the glaciers 200 years later, and the resulting photographs explore the environmental and social issues of our time through the themes of Mary Shelley’s novel.

For the project, Shot at Dawn, Chloe recorded many of the sites across France and Belgium where around 1,000 British, French and Belgian soldiers were executed for cowardice or desertion during the First World War. She photographed each site at dawn, the time that most of the men were executed, close to the date on which the executions occurred and from around the same location that they were shot.

Chloe is internationally recognised, exhibiting at Tate Modern, Irish Museum of Modern Art, Museum Folkwang and Fotomuseum Antwerp, as well as being published widely in newspapers and magazines such as the Guardian, Sunday Times, Financial Times, Harpers and Le Monde. Don’t miss your chance to hear from Chloe about her work and life.
