Fourth Year is a series of informal networking sessions for early career photographers to gain support for their practice.

Redeye has partnered up with universities in the North to offer support to early career photographers, whether you have recently graduated or need some support in developing your photographic practice. Maybe you're looking for advice on your latest project, in need of industry contacts or simply wanting to feel connected to a group of like-minded photographers in a similar situation to your own.

This series of evening drop-in workshops have been developed with the support of a range of Northern institutions; for this edition of Fourth Year we are working with Manchester School of Art.

Who is it for?

Anyone can attend; however these workshops are primarily aimed at those who have graduated from photography (or related) courses or who haven’t studied formally but would define themselves as early career artists. The sessions will provide contact time with experienced tutors and arts or photography professionals in an informal and accessible format.

Event Breakdown

Fourth Year offers sessions on critique, creative development, and practical industry advice. You can book on to as many or few as you like, although we would encourage you to attend as many as you can for your own development, to build a network and to sample advice from different institutions. Each session is led by a staff member from the hosting institution, with occasional visitors from Redeye and the northern photographic community to offer additional support. Keep an eye out for additional Fourth Year sessions that will be announced shortly.

Manchester School of Art are offering a speed portfolio review, giving you the opportunity to get advice on your work from four tutors; Alicia Hart, Ben McDonnell, Richard Page and David Penny. There will also be support available on preparing your work and making the most of your review.

What to bring

We suggest bringing a body of work in the form of prints, a portfolio, or images on screen. It can be a project in progress at any stage.

Where

These events will take place at the college or university. The exact room and building will be announced closer to the event along with travel directions for those who have booked. Redeye ensures all the venues we use are fully accessible.

Tickets

These events are free to Redeye members and £2.50 to non members. Booking is essential as places are limited. If you’ve been considering a Redeye membership and have graduated in the last two years you are still eligible for a student membership at the reduced price of £2.50 a month.

Please note our terms and conditions before booking.

Donations

Thanks for reading this far. Please consider making a donation at the time of registering; this helps to support our future programme of events. At the moment we have very limited funding that only covers the costs of a few events each year. If everyone attending an event similar to these donated £3, we could put on many more events.
