About

Fundamentals in Photography is a weekend of introductory photography workshops. Led by professional photographers David and Libby Nightingale, these workshops will encourage you to develop your own style and help you to get to grips with your camera's technical features and post-production software.

Who is it for?

The workshop is aimed at anyone, particularly beginners looking to develop their technical skills and create photography that has more meaning and expression.

Workshop Contents

  • Getting Off Auto - This session will help anyone understand and use more easily their DSLR or any camera with manual controls. Covering the basics of, composition, aperture, ISO, shutter speeds and metering modes alongside more creative exposure techniques.
  • Your Photographic Voice, Style and Self Expression  - This session will introduce you to a range of artistic and conceptual methods in photography, teach you how to read images and develop your unique ‘eye’ and style.
  • The Role of Post Production in Contemporary Photography - This session will guide you through popular image editing software, covering the main themes of pre-visualisation, parallels to traditional processes and techniques, creative interpretation of a scene and developing a personal style.
  • Getting Started in Lightroom  - This will be an introduction to Lightroom, assuming no prior knowledge, but working through most of its functions.

David Nightingale

David Nightingale is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning photographer and instructor, and is the Creative Director of Chromasia Training Limited. His clients include the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, the Dubai International Financial Centre, Arts Council England, the Van Volxem winery in Germany, Sony UK, and Sony Middle East and Africa. He is also an instructor at the Gulf Photo Plus training events in Dubai. 

Libby Nightingale 

Libby Nightingale is Co-Director of Chromasia Training Limited, a photographic and post-production training company, specialising in online photography and photoshop training, one-to-one tuition and the delivery of high-quality workshops around the world. Her background is in management and psychology and she has won numerous awards including Winner of the Business Start-up category of the 2009 North West Women in Business Awards, and finalist in the Outstanding Women in Business category of the 2008 ABF Tiger Awards.

The workshops are over the weekend of Saturday 1st April and Sunday 2nd April 2017. Starting at 10:00 till 17:00 on both days. Doors open at 09:30.

Where

This event takes place at the Centre For Chinese Contemporary Art, Thomas Street, Northern Quarter M4 1EU. The venue is fully accessible.
