About the events...
Ethics Swapshop
This November, international campaign movement With One Voice is holding the first ever International Arts and Homelessness Summit and Festival. The events are based on the acknowledgement that homelessness is not just about housing and practical ‘house-lessness’. The events will investigate how the arts are being used effectively around the world to reduce social isolation by building social networks and increasing both physical and mental health, also improving public attitudes/promoting understanding towards people who are or have been homeless, and enabling homeless people to express themselves so that their voices can be heard.
We warmly invite you to come and contribute to our Ethics Swapshop collaboration. It is an open discussion for photographers and artists working with communities who are or have been homeless or housed in unstable conditions to chat about best practices, outcomes and ethics. A space for people to share their experiences of creative projects and lessons learnt in the process. A proactive and truly worthwhile session to attend when considering such a crucial current social issue.
Exhibition Launch: Facing Change
To mark the launch of the International Arts and Homelessness Festival, Facing Change will be a one-night only exhibition displaying photography made during workshops in Autumn 2018 by communities who have been or currently are homeless in Manchester.
Work from local Manchester artists will be shown in parallel with photography documenting homelessness and the effect of the rapidly shifting property market on Detroit from sister exhibition, Facing Change: Documenting DETROIT, USA.
Who is it for?
We would recommend the swapshop for anyone interested in joining the conversation, linking homelessness to art and creativity in society. Come along if you want to contribute, learn and shape the future. The exhibition is for everyone and will be a unique launch event. Join us.
