Rineke Dijkstra Talk

12 December 2007, 00:00

A key figure in contemporary portraiture, Rineke Dijkstra often chooses to photograph her subjects at times when their inner lives are most likely to be externalised. By isolating them using carefully controlled lighting and backgrounds, using a style that refers as much to old master painting as to contemporary photography, her subjects can seem vulnerable and off guard, and her work has a particular balance of strength and subtlety. She lives and works in Amsterdam and exhibits worldwide. See www.rinekedijkstra.net
